I've been saying Neofetch was dead for years, good job catching up. It's a great project on it's technical merits but being written in bash script it's always been one of the slower options there are so many other great implementations nowadays https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/1cga3q4/neofetch_development_discontinued_repository/
@BrodieOnLinux people actually use that outside of r/unixporn? Never would have guessed.
@Huubje
I actually run it on my server. Mainly for disk use and as an eye candy line break
@BrodieOnLinux
@BrodieOnLinux The issue is that neofetch is very common and in most repos. I'm on Debian at the moment and I can't seem to find any other fetch tools. I could just not be looking well enough. But neofetch is there and working. It's not like you need it to be fast. As long as it works well and is feature rich (which neofetch is) That's all you need.
@roo79 Most of them are pretty simple to compile, but I get that. One of the benefits of being an arch user.
@BrodieOnLinux When I get new hardware and the themes, widgets etc I like get updated for plasma 6 I will return to Arch.
@BrodieOnLinux If you find any to recommend that are in most repos I'll try them out. Doesn't have to be in Debian repos. A bit of compiling never hurt anyone. Might be a good video idea. A hoard of Fetch apps to replace Neofetch with
@roo79 I see that hyfetch which is a direct fork of neofetch is in the Debian repos. But the one I use is fastfetch a C rewrite.
@BrodieOnLinux Thanks I'll take a look
@BrodieOnLinux EDit Fastfetch has a deb package. I should have read better
@roo79 It's not in the repo though is it? It's just a package on the github
@BrodieOnLinux Yes just a package on github. But I still should have read properly lol
@BrodieOnLinux @roo79 but hyfetch is gay, that's the selling point
@heinwol @roo79 You can make fastfetch gay and then increase your gay per hour
@BrodieOnLinux @roo79 hyfetch is even slower than neofetch though
@CwalkPinoy @roo79 It's a direct fork of neofetch so I expect a slow bash script with more features to be slower
@BrodieOnLinux @roo79 you should ask toaster birb about birbfetch
It's written in assembly and so fast it can't be measured accurately
@BrodieOnLinux
Do you have a moment to talk about our lord and saviour Void Linux?
@roo79
@BrodieOnLinux I especially like how they developer of neofetch, his profile says heโ€™s become a farmer. So now Iโ€™m trying to figure out if heโ€™s just playing Stardew Valley or really became a farmer lol ๏ฟผ๏ฟผ
