It's time for our very first Beneath the Tangles art contest! We are so excited to ask you to enter and share your creations with us and the world. The subject? Our own sometimes adorable, sometimes fierce, mascot, BtT-chan! That's right! We're teaming up with partner and friend Arthur Thurmond to roll our character (see full images below) out in a greater capacity, and this contest is the first big part of it!

Beneath the Tangles

We’re rolling our mascot, BtT-chan, and are asking YOU all to redraw her and post your version! Follow us, post your drawing by midnight ET on May 24th, and tag it #BtTChanChallenge to enter!

The grand prize winner will receive a $100 Crunchyroll gift card (or of equivalent USD value to an anime/manga store local to the winner). A “Spirit of BtT” winner, which “best represents Beneath the Tangles,” will get a $40 gift card.

More rules:
• You must be following us on the platform on which you post your entry
• Keep it "clean"—no sexual, bloody, or violent entries, please!
• Entries must be posted by 11:59 p.m. ET on May 24
• Hashtag your post "#BtTChanChallenge"
• International entries are welcome
• BtT staff are not eligible
• AI art is ineligible

@beneaththetangles I hope this goes well for y'all, but I gotta say I don't like the fact that the mascot is a representative of one of the worst things we as Christians have done to our Jewish and Muslim neighbors. Crusaders should be condemned, not cutified.

@sapphicselene @beneaththetangles This is a fair criticism! I appreciate the feedback and understand how she would be interpreted that way, especially since we used this more forceful image in our material for this contest than the original art piece, which isn't so...attacking!

My hope, despite the misstep, is that she's seen in the light in which she was made—a character, instead, clothed in the armor of God! We love our Jewish and Muslim friends—some of my most cherished relationships in our community are with those who think very differently from us about God.
