Drew up vague plans for #Pittsburgh infratourism (tho I may break it up?).

- Start near CC/hotel
- Walk north across Allegheny on whichever bridge has best view
- Board T, ride Red Line thru downtown, then 30min south to where it rejoins Blue/Silver lines
- Take Blue/Silver north to see other ‘arm’. (I’m aware this is probably all boring suburb, but why not make a loop of it.)
- Hop off at Station Square, ride funicular/incline 🆙
- Walk along ridge to other funicular
- G2 BRT back from there.

Might reverse the timeline so the “walk across bridge” part is last and thus optional or easily done at another time. Bad ankle says please be gentle.

@bitprophet FYI, the Wood Street station of the T is scheduled to be closed through May 31. There will be shuttle buses between Gateway and (the seldom used!) Penn Station stop.

Major light rail project impacting Downtown Pittsburgh underway

Regular service between Steel Plaza and Gateway is expected to be interrupted and detoured for approximately two months.

@JasonMilletary huh, thanks! This makes splitting things up a lot easier, ha. Also whoa at the train station light rail stop being in use, the regular system maps don't even show it!
@bitprophet Yeah, it was in use when the T first opened in the 80s, with alternate services that terminated there instead of Gateway. I believe it was intended to connect the East Busway and serve as a potential link to an eastern light rail line. Now it mostly sits unused (I believe there have been talks to get rid of it) except for rare occasions like this.
@JasonMilletary Echoes of NYC's alternate City Hall station.

@JasonMilletary Huh, did the light rail work at Wood Street either finish early or get rescheduled? Port Authority website saying nothing about it and the realtime stop info implies the T is going through Wood St station at the moment.

I was going to go check out Union Station anyways so I guess I'll find out soon!

Edit: ok it is still mentioned on the site: https://www.rideprt.org/inside-Pittsburgh-Regional-Transit/projects-and-programs/rail24/subway-foundation-repairs/

Edit 2: confirmed, the T stop by the busway behind Union Stn is active!

@bitprophet My son confirmed it was still in use yesterday! Although he said the announcements on the train were confusing.
@JasonMilletary It felt like they were indeed all terminating at Union Station, trains were just chilling there and only leaving/departing to the south. Caught one to the inclines, was neat. (Driver actually stopped it just past the platform to let me and a few other stragglers on via the low-platform door; have never seen a light rail system do that!)
@bitprophet You lucked out! Some (bus or light rail) drivers will do this. Others will make eye contact and keep right on going.
