Aren’t those tomato meter scores the aggregate of critic reviews? On cult classics, low-brow, or franchises with baggage, the user reviews are way more likely to match the vibe of a movie.

Funnily enough, it’s almost the complete opposite for independent movies made for “film people”. Or plots that require critical thinking or deep attention (the latter is my own Achilles’ heel). Where the user score is garbage but the critic score is more likely to match the target audience’s reception.

Rotten Tomatoes is, and always has been, an absolutely abysmal place to go to find out if a movie is good.
