🗣️ 🙉
@jo I dont know any Spanish but I can still understand exactly what these memes say perfectly well
@root @jo the first meme is in French which I also don't know but the words in that meme are like silly Romanian with extra letters
@hazelnot @root @jo Tutte le lingue romanze sono silly italiano
@jo i love having a romance language as my native language
@jo i legit don't understand the first one, what do antibiotics have to do with bisexuals
@Lulukaros @jo anti-bi-otics, bi-sexuals 🙂
@alextecplayz @Lulukaros @jo The french joke is pretty poor, from a native speaker perspective.
Bio is pronounced as a single syllab which won't sound at all like bi, so the joke will most likely sound unintuitive/far-fetched
So this is most likely an English speaker joke still
@Lulukaros @jo don't know any French, but I think it's about anti-bi-otics
@anreji @jo ohhhhhhhv omg hahahaha, i can see it now thank you, as for the french, it just says "bisexuals when doctors prescribe them with antibiotics"
@Lulukaros @jo maybe in this case it's even easier to understand if you don't understand french :P
@anreji @Lulukaros @jo im french and didn't get the joke either, so it's not a language thing lmao
@yukijoou @anreji @jo the other replies already explained it lol
@anreji @Lulukaros @jo i can only assume this pun works better in french than in english
@silverfish @anreji @jo i know french, and no it's not the reason, also many people explained it to me already
@Lulukaros @jo antiBIotics (i assume)
@Lulukaros i can only assume it’s a play on antiBIotics 🤷‍♂️
@Lulukaros @jo bisexuals when the doctor prescribes them antiBIotics (emphasis added)
@Lulukaros @jo anti-BI-otics ("bi" being a common shortening of "bisexual")

@jo literally the world I live in holy shit. Showing simple Portuguese memes to French people who learnt Spanish at school... come on...

Monolingualism is such a pain

@jo tarnslate?????????????????????????????????????? (if you couldnt tell this is a joke)
@jo

ah yes, because "bisexual, doctor, prescription, antibiotics" (the only words there I understand) is a super understandable meme

the last one is easy to understand, but the first one isn't
@pharmafemboy @jo I personally need to read this translated into English as my native word for an antibiotic has /bjɔ/ and not /baɪ/ which is necessary to understand this joke by matching it with /bi/.
@jo I need a translation of "quand" specifically. when I read an explanation of the joke, I found out that it likely means "when" and in that case, yeah this is funny. the second one is quite understandable, except that I already know "yo" to be "you"
@jo "bisexuals when the doctor prescribes them antibiotics"?
@anselmschueler @jo As a monolingual, that is how I interperted it.
@Guildz @anselmschueler @jo as a french that's exactly what it means
@yukijoou @Guildz @jo is there a past tense in there?
@anselmschueler @Guildz @jo oh, yeah, indeed, that'd be "when they have been prescribed" for a more faithful translation
@jo "um... translate?" how about YOU translate by yourself. learn french. do not resist.
@jo I love being able to read multiple languages
@jo Learned helplessness, I guess? The most fun part of learning a language for me is puzzling out a sentence when you only know some of the words! But I guess if you never try, you assume it's impossible...

@jo Could you translate "leur"?

Knowing English natively and a bit of Spanish from high school, I understood most of the words but got tripped up on "leur". And I'm aware that French has been through enough cases of the #JespersenCycle, such as "pas" literally meaning "step" but meaning "not" after a verb, to know that any unknown word next to the verb could potentially reverse a clauses meaning.

@jo The main thing I don't get is what bisexuals would have against antibiotics.
@jo the only part of this I don't get is what this supposed relation between bisexuals and antibiotics is supposed to be.
@dhfir @jo
Hope you don’t mind the necroposting, but I think it’s just that it’s anti*bi*otics x)
@melunaka @jo I totes forgot this tjread even existed but yeah that sounds correct.
@jo even when people send me a bad joke in my own language I tend to ask for an explanation lmao
