Took a really cute novelty train yesterday to go see an eepy cat conductor at Kishi station in Wakayama prefecture. Everything was cat-themed! #trains
@lostletters is the whole line (or at least the station) dedicated to one single cat? Or are these dedicated to cats in general?
@qsr711 the line is famous for the single cat station master at Kishi station, but another station along the line also has a cat conductor. Here’s more info: https://travel.gaijinpot.com/kishi-station/
Kishi Station

Welcome to this tiny station epitomizing laidback countryside charm. Stationmaster on a catnap? That’s just part of her job.

@lostletters thanks a lot! I'm noting this place for the Japan trip I will do some day!
@lostletters
The legacy of Station Master Tama!
@neckspike I haven't thought about Tama in so long! She is the reason I developed an interest in novelty trains years and years ago. I had no idea she passed... but I see she lived a long, full life, and her spirit lives on at the station. 🥹
@raziel She passed in 2015 and was promoted to Eternal Station Master and enshrined next to the station as Tama Daimyōjin. Her apprentice Nitama is the current Station Master at Wakayama.
@lostletters
That's Nitama! She took up the Station Master post when her predecessor, the super- famous Tama (who is pictured on the train), passed away. How exciting that you got to see Nitama and her famous station and train!!

@lostletters the Japanese do have a thing about theming trains, especially local ones. 🙂
@lostletters oooo, looking back on this, I just realised the kitty isn't a conductor, they're the station master
