@doylio @arstechnica backing renewables with nuclear is not a very good strategy, nuclear power plants can reduce their output but cant shut off completely, which they should at peak renewable generation times. So you will always pay for expensive nuclear power while wasting renewables.
Policy makers and thinktanks see a lot of potential in power2gas (especiallly hydrogen), it has bad efficieny (~30%) but its more flexible and potentially cheaper than nuclear power.
