mechtheist@pluralistic Robin's ideas remind me of Jonathon Haidt's moral foundations theories that the conservative mindset is authoritarian, Manichean-can't stand ambiguity, abhor uncertainty, very suspect of the new and different-tribal/group think, and highly sensitive to sanctity/purity. That's a bit oversimplified but he's done a lot of research and found a global fairly clear dichotomy wrt to liberal mindsets. That's a near-perfect recipe for delusional thinking and why they're far more religious.
