@artemist Assuming NZ citizens are operating on the same set of rules that the UK ones are (since they are somewhat generic), that is 100% not the case, if you are in Schengen, then those days start counting up from when you enter to exit the entire zone. But there are some EU countries that are not in Schengen.

@benjojo @artemist it is possible for citizens of countries that had visa exemptions set up before Schengen existed to stay longer but it would be complicated to do: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visa_requirements_for_Australian_citizens#Visa_exemptions_for_Schengen_states

There are enough of these countries bordering each other that I could go around in a loop indefinitely, but proving where I am constantly and the tax implications would make it a bad idea in practice.
