That's the only reason. - Lemmy.World

Such immature insults with unsavoury implicit messages. There are plenty of legitimate reasons to hate conservatism. Implicitly calling all conservatives (you can never extrapolate anything besides the thing that binds them to a large group) either teenagers or ephebophiles (it’s not clear which, although I suppose teenagers are usually ephebophiles anyway), is obviously untrue, and also wouldn’t be an insult if it was, since ageism doesn’t make good insults, and neither is calling someone an ephebophile, since it means nothing as long as they don’t act on any illegal impulses.
I love how you get downvoted for stating the obvious. Oh someone does not like tattoos and/or piercings? That person must be the devil himself! Absurd. Focus on actual arguments instead of such nonsense.
Imagine reading a joke/meme and feeling personally called out by it.
It’s a joke as much as promoting hateful stereotypes is a joke
Conservatives are much more hateful than any stereotype
Does that mean you should be too?
I should be what? A conservative? No, thank you, I live in reality and I’m not scared of made-up culture war bullshit
No, hateful. Just because someone else does something stupid doesn’t mean you should
Oh, yeah, you should be hateful of intolerance. If you aren’t, you’re hurting those who are getting hatecrimed by conservatives
Why are you generalizing a political movement?
How am I generalizing, beyond pointing out the defining cause behind the movement?
This is not a general thing amongst conservatives, that would be ridiculous
Yeah, modern conservatives are ridiculous. Haven’t you heard?
I’ve seen strong polarization in politics, and people demonizing their opponents. Thinking the majority falls in that extreme spectrum is a ridiculous notion imo

Well… if a conservative:

  • supports gay marriage
  • doesn’t believe in ROGD or the notion that people become transgender because of social contagion
  • is okay with sex education that includes homosexuality
  • supports transgender athletes
  • supports transgender people using bathrooms according to their gender
  • is okay with drag shows and doesn’t believe they’re automatically unsuitable for children
  • doesn’t believe that people of color are inherently more violent/stupid/dangerous/filthy/etc
  • supports schools in teaching even the unsightly parts of the country’s history
  • supports immigration
  • supports diversity and inclusion
  • doesn’t believe that young people are lazy ungrateful brats
  • doesn’t support patriarchy
  • defends women’s rights to abortion
  • believes that government should spend more money on helping homeless, drug addicts, disabled, orphans, etc

Is this person still a conservative?

That is a long list, perhaps there’s nuance here? Someone can support some of those and not others, and still mostly lean into a particular political direction

Yeah. There’s a lot of things that conservatives hate, that’s what I was saying since the beginning. And I didn’t even mention the hate of non-christians, for example, or for socialists.

And if you support some things but not the others, you’re still supporting policies based on hate, so my point stands

Some people support things based on hate, but unless you can read minds you can’t generalize that. And also not all conservatives are christians
Can you give me one singular reason to oppose gay marriage that isn’t based on hate?
The meme is about tattoo’s, are just just adding this to make your point work?

Ok, so you do admit that opposition to gay marriage is based on hate. Good.

And the discussion was about the fact that the vast majority of conservative policies are dictated by fear. Have you forgotten?

No, I did not, I can’t read minds unfortunately. And no, we’re in a comment thread about a meme.
