Something that also stood out from Chapter 7 was that some of the kids are acting like the bad cops are portrayed. The bully and harass the kids who are deviant (non-deviant to the law) for trying to be good kids. They know they have power of them because of number and personality and use that to harass the other kids. I wonder if this shows that people do not like anyone different? Or even the idea that power corrupts? #so345
@Argyle_ #so345 You bring up an interesting point. I think how the "criminal" boys treat the "good" boys demonstrates how norms and deviance require context. In our context, we view the good boys more positively whereas for the criminal boys, where they've grown up with different norms and in an attempt to increase their own self-esteem and dignity, they treat those who go against the norms and expectations set for the boys worse.
@Argyle_ I think this the kids trying to gain any semblance of power and control back in their lives. I think they feel that their entire life is to have power over something. #so345
