I wanted to build out a Sonos system but wanted to keep my hifi speakers and amp. Especially wanted to skip the $500 Sonos adapter to do this.
Ended up hooking up an old Apple AirPort )$50 on eBay) with a line in jack to the amp and buying a Sonos for another room.
Works flawlessly through iOS and Spotify airplay. Audio perfectly synced and I can control volumes for separate rooms. Can’t use the Sonos app but I find myself using that rarely anyway, preferring native app experiences, especially for bandcamp and YouTube.
Have to change inputs to put on a record or watch a movie, but that’s perfectly fine.
