Bad car crash at the start of Car-Free JFK Promenade. Thankfully, no one outside the car appears to have been injured, but this could have easily been another roadway fatality (or multiple).

The City should move the round concrete bollards to the other side of the crosswalk now.

Not long after, a group of preschool children crossed through that same crosswalk — as countless school children do multiple times a day — and continued to the dangerous (and busy!) Kezar Drive crosswalk.

In addition to moving the bollards, the City should redesign Kezar Drive.

The crosswalk for Kezar Drive just south of Car-Free JFK Promenade needs numerous improvements immediately:

1️⃣ Lengthen the crossing time to 45 or 60 seconds
2️⃣ Install new, 20–30 feet wide curb ramps
3️⃣ Install bollards along the curb to protect people from arrant cars / trucks

@LukeBornheimer I made the same suggestion two years ago. Was completely ignored of course. https://twitter.com/jefposk/status/1599970549551464450

@RecParkSF I like the new barriers. One comment about the placement at JFK and Kezar - would it make sense to move the barriers forward so they also protect pedestrians in the crosswalks?

@LukeBornheimer And of course the car didn’t have a license plate.
@SkibuSmith Great point and observation! One of my many concerns with automated speed enforcement cameras as the new flashy “this will solve our roadway safety crisis” talking point and priority.
