Almost all of the modules that make up Framework Laptop 16 are now in stock in the Framework Marketplace, for the DIY purists who need to build from parts.

(We don't actually recommend doing this. It will result in a ton of extra packaging and shipping overhead. You can just buy a Framework Laptop 16 DIY Edition, take it fully apart, and pretend we shipped it to you that way.)

@frameworkcomputer Is it really necessary to assemble the machine just to test the parts? To be honest, the cost might just be lower across the product lineup if workers waste their time assembling then disassembling the diy editions.

@stargazer_alpha @frameworkcomputer You have to attach the parts to *something* for testing. And when you have something that you specifically made to match those parts, it becomes tempting to leverage it for the tests.

In other words, why build a custom jig if you can do tests in the assembled final product?

You'd need a good reason not to do that.

@dcz @frameworkcomputer You're right, but what probably doesn't make sense to me is the worker doing the disassembly and costing less. You might as well leave everything assembled and that should improve efficiency because it's wasted labor. I would rather see the price of all the laptops coming down and scale better.

@stargazer_alpha @frameworkcomputer It still makes sense though.

Think of a jigsaw puzzle: someone had to put in the effort to shuffle the tiles. The buyer is paying for the excuse/opportunity/experience of putting it together.
