Staring down the international travel booking barrel today. Current grappling with the question of whether, given a 3 ½ hour connection window, I’m willing to accept a connection that has me transfer from IAD to DCA, given there is train service between the two that takes 1 ½ hours to navigate (including walking time). Is two hours enough time to deplane, clear customs, and get through DCA TSA? Seems dicey, even with Global Entry.
Overwhelming consensus is that it’s too tight and not worth the risk. So now I have to search for other flight paths that don’t have a similar transfer time, except between JFK and LaGuardia (LOL no).
@Meyerweb FWIW, I wouldn't risk such a tight connection.
@Meyerweb Too close for comfort, imo.
@Meyerweb I admittedly haven't lived in the dc metro area since before the train went out to IAD but that train journey involves a transfer in a fairly crowded station as well. I feel like that timeline would be tough even if you were taking a cab.
@Meyerweb Depending on time of day, a car might be a lot faster (30 minutes?), though you need to account for the time waiting for rideshare or taxi...
@Meyerweb I wouldn't... it seems like it'd cut things way too close.
