@dinozombie Meta does not have any qualms about changing the terms of service required to use a device long after you’ve bought it. Plus the Quest 2 is already four years old and will imminently be two generations behind, same as the Quest 1 which just lost most of its viability as a usable device forever. I don’t think it’s a purchase you can justify with “doesn’t require a FB account anymore”. I’d never use a Meta device even for free, much less one with All the Sensors on it.

the last thing I want is to have more e-waste just lying around the house. I guess there's no open source OS (yet?) I could just install and have work without Meta's proprietary code

@dinozombie It’s a lot more expensive, but the PSVR2 is a fantastic and very friendly device for getting into VR, and there’s a good chance they’ll have it working on PC officially before the end of the year.
