Would've been embarrassing if they'd been wrong and the airfield was real
Idk I think it’d been funny either way, if it was a real airfield and they dropped a wooden bomb then that’d been hilarious, I mean just imagine the Germans looking up seeing an RAF bomber and then shitting themself thinking they are about to get bombed only to find out it was wooden all along, Mean while the RAF bomber is flying off with a pilot laughing their head off inside.
I assume they knew because of the enigma cracking?
Is that was the only way they knew they wouldn’t have done it. The Germans not knowing the enigma was cracked was a lot more important than a silly prank.

The Germans were utterly fucked when it came to gathering intelligence because threatening captives doesn’t work. Allies put captured generals in a luxury prison and bugged them.

The Nazi prisoners bugged by Germans

A top-secret operation in World War II bugged thousands of German prisoners, gleaning vital information about the Nazi war machine through "secret listeners" who were themselves German refugees

That was true of Nazi interrogators with the exception of Hanns Scharff. He’s famously known in military intelligence for his use of kindness to extract information from unknowing participants.

It’s almost like Nazis were naturally unkind people.
Yeah. It’s in the name
Nazi is short for national socialist. That wouldn’t per se suggest unkindness by name alone. The appearance is deceptive, of course.
It’s also the Cletus of the time and place.
Some, I assume, are good people.
You know they’re not sending their best. 🙄
It is worth pointing out that the national socialist party existed before Hitler. As Hitler gained power he forced out the true socialist. By the time he was in power there was no more real socialism in the party.

Socialism is an inherently globalist ideology. Any attempt to replace that with nationalism will lead to results just like the Nazis. Or the CCP, for that matter.

The Nazis weren’t good guys, even before the takeover and the emphasis on eugenics and anti-semitism.

Oh never said they were, I just think it important for people to remember how narcissistic autocrats tend to rewrite history so they were always there first, that is their ideas. They are almost always not the founder. They take popular movements/ideas/products, force there way in and then came it was always theirs.

It is a good reminder for when there are modern examples.

“Globalist” is a white supremacist dogwhistle for Jews.

Sure. As is “Cultural Bolshevism.”

Because they blamed Jews for socialism. Which is a globalist, as opposed to nationalist, ideology.

Gee golly it sure does. Fascist.
Maybe read a book sometime, shitlib.
Ooooh which ones do you suggest, conservatard?

Try the series “The Collected Works of Karl Marx and Fredrich Engels.”

You goon, lmao.

Yeah I’ve got that one. It’s a good read. I’m a socialist too. You fucking dingleberry.

You have a mind at all, socialist that doesn’t know what globalism actually is?

You’d think “Workers of the world, unite” might have clued you in.

First time I’ve seen you say that. Maybe you should try harder not to sound like a Fox New junkie.

Try actually reading those books you definitely actually own, buddy.

You might learn something.

Ah yes of course, how could one possibly assume unkindness of someone just because they’re a Nazi. It’s just short for two common words, surely we can’t assume genocidal intent or otherwise fairly criticize anyone for something so trivial
No, it was a joke. Like the “are we the baddies?” meme

It kind of does, if you follow the implications and start asking how they resolve the oxymorons.

Turns out, by ignoring one of the words entirely.

I feel like they modify each other.

Socialism is for the betterment of the community. Nationalism allows them to define who is included in that community.

And yet later some of them decided gitmo was a good idea…
Yanks are also dogshit at espionage for this reason. I think by Allies this is more referring to the British, whose intelligence was instrumental in winning the war.

some of them

Without looking into it, I can guarantee you that no one involved in British Intelligence in WW2 were in the US Army Military Police in Iraq 60 years later. Not everything is connected.

Someone really should look into this.

What I meant though is some of the allies, ie. The US specifically.

Even regular pows had it pretty good, lots were out to work on farms in the Midwest then stayed and hung their shingle.
What a flex
Lmao, absolutely. Imagine being the reconnaissance that had to report this to command.
Someone needs to make a “Hitler reacts” parody video for this story.

As a German I was wondering how the Red Army Faction time-travelled to WW2.

Turns out RAF = Royal Air Force

When I first moved to Germany, I was surprised by the amount of leftists that seemed to support the Royal Air Force, lol

For WW2, It’s complicated, they did fight the nazis but they also applied carpet bombing.

You can appreciate one without forgetting the other.

Technically, yes. They were really for the Red Army Faction though.

Danke, das war verwirrend
Yet, wasn’t surprised they had boomers? :p
I’ve read about it and iirc, it’s wasn’t even official mission. It was just pilots goofing off and dropping a training bomb, without command approval.
They had training missions into enemy territory with fake ordinance?
More like they had access to training bombs and planes, and frequently flew over enemy territory, so they put those things together and got a mad prank out of it.
Eeeyup! And IIRC consequences back at base but eh, worth it.
And did their CO ever do anything that landed him in the history books besides yelling at them for this historical prank? You are welcome, sir.
I was about to ask. I’d hope command didn’t risk a pilot’s life to revel strategic intel.
Where did you read about it?
Anyone have an actual citation on this particular fact?
I did and turns out this fact is made of wood.
Unofrtunately, unlikely, per Snopes: www.snopes.com/fact-check/wooden-bomb/
Did the British Drop a Wooden Bomb on a Decoy German Airfield?

This is one of those things where I truly don’t care if it’s real or not, as my life is better for knowing about it either way.
That is very Monty Pythonesque. British humor is something special
“But ve worked very hard :(”
