🔮🧙🏿‍♂️ Blackstradamus remains undefeated.

$4K may not sound like much to people that work in tech. But for some of the people that were targeted with the lure of getting into tech, $4K was crushing.

People thought I was unnecessarily harsh when I called the Lambda school folks out over the years. It would appear that I was not.

The CFPB issued an order against BloomTech and its CEO for deceiving students about the cost of loans and making false claims about graduates’ hiring rates.

@mekkaokereke $4K is a lot! That’s a couple semesters of community college, at least.

@mekkaokereke This is so good to see. I was a HS teacher when Lambda school appeared, and it sure looked appealing to some students.

Like so many things that seem too good to be true, it fell apart with any actual scrutiny. I hope that guy crawls under a rock for a long long time.

@mekkaokereke

WTF!?

A 9 month, presumably non-accredited "course" costs $30,000 USD!?

What a fucking scam!

@mekkaokereke whew. It took way too long to go from fucking around to finding out though. They did a lot of damage.
@mekkaokereke you opened my eyes to what was happening at Lambda School back on Twitter when Austen was pushing a very popularly praised (and easily believed, for me at least) story.
@mekkaokereke the founder is delusional and sadly I don’t think he’ll stop here, he wont be allowed to be a predator against hopeful career changers but I’m sure he’ll come up with some other scam soon.
@mekkaokereke "get into tech" is a good premise for a grift since it's based on a thing that can actually happen. i stopped searching for explicitly entry level jobs because nearly anything that came up would have a predatory smell (jobs that are actually ads for bootcamps, 'we get you in but you pay for your training', 'you get a stipend for a 2 month training that sounds like a lot but is actually like $5/hr and if we decide to give you work afterward we might require you to move to another state with no notice And your contract says you have to stay for two years or you pay us a ton', things like that) and anything that was real was explicitly 'new grad'
@mekkaokereke and to think I almost recommended them to some friends because of the good marketing.
