So I got access to Air Chat (thx @guillaumevende & Olivier Buffon), and I only just launched the app and it *is* interesting.

For those who don't know, it's "audio Twitter": you record your messages, and it transcribes them into text.

So you can read & listen.

Before you roll your eyes, the effect is really special: you're not reading throwaway comments from random people you already hate on the internet.

⬇️

So you're actually listening to *real people* having *real conversations*.
It's so much more grounded & less toxicity inducing.

To be clear, I have *no idea* if it'll go anywhere. I've had it for a second and a half and it might just be a gimmick. But I think it might also be something interesting, and some people might love it.

We'll see, but I think it's worth giving it a shot.

@NotPatrick Is the theory, do you think, that if people have to use their actual voice, that the trolls won't be willing to do that?

If so, I suspect it just will mean people will use AI voice generation to troll just as hard.

@jkwatson Not quite that, it's more that when you hear someone's actual voice it's harder to feel it is toxic or trollish. And it's harder to BE toxic when you have to say the things, I think.
@NotPatrick Unless of course, they are being a jerk and actually trolling and being toxic.
@jkwatson Well, I'm not saying it's going to fix the Internet... :)
@NotPatrick haha. Well, that's fair enough. It _does_ sound interesting, but I'm so burned out on social media at this point, that I don't know if I'm up for taking more chances. :(
