Stop Killing Games

🇬🇧Gamers are fighting the killing of the computer game "The Crew 1" by the manufacturer. https://www.stopkillinggames.com/

Indeed, such a short-term shutdown should be illegal under EU law. As a #Pirate Member of the EU Parliament, I have now requested an official assessment by the EU Commission.

We #Pirates generally advocate for a right of the community to take over orphaned software. Widely used software is more than just a product on the shelf - we need to make manufacturers understand this!

> No, we would not require the company to give up any of its intellectual property rights[sic], simply to allow players who purchased the game to continue running it. In no way would that involve the publisher forfeit any intellectual property rights[sic].

That's a big disappointment. This campaign might still be a step in the right direction, but we precisely should demand publishers to release abandoned games as #FreeSoftware

@echo_pbreyer Another #gaming related thing: if we buy a #game it should be available to me on all platforms/devices/consoles it supports, We should not be forced to buy the game again to play it on another platform. It is like we should buy a car again to drive it on another road. Just unacceptable nonsense.
