Certainly easier to defeat.
@georgetakei Easier? They're responsible for more deaths than any other animal ever.
@georgetakei Big MAN sized mosquitoes. Y'know, never mind. I don't want to see that.

@georgetakei

Leeches. Vampires are leeches.

(Haemophagia is a metabolically marginal dietโ€”blood is notably short on nutrients!โ€”so all actually-existing haemophagic species are highly specialized. I once did a BOTE calculation and worked out that a human-size vampire would need to bleed about one victim per hour completely dry to avoid starvation.)

@cstross Fiction leads to such interesting research and search engine histories ๐Ÿ™‚

I doubt that vampires run on chemistry. They run on zero point energy. Blood is for being sexy.

@cstross @georgetakei

Aha. Well that explains why this one here would take more than blood.

There was a British vampire show called "Ultraviolet" in the late 80s in which the word vampire was never used: they called them leeches or 'code fives'

@cstross Perhaps humans aren't vampires nutrition, we're their "empty calories", their equivalent of chocolate.

@cstross @georgetakei

Hmm. So what's the explanation? My first thought was total conversion of the iron in the haemoglobin to energy. 3-4g in the whole body, say about 250mg in one blood meal... gives about 6 million kWh. Do vampires traditionally emit mostly in X- and gamma rays?

#emc2 #mass #energy #conversion

@cstross @georgetakei Yeah, but vampires are undead, and therefore, magic. Mundane calculations of magical things are always going to be off. There is probably an app for it though.

@cstross @georgetakei

What would it take if vampires were cold blooded?

@georgetakei good luck running a stake through a mosquitos heart.
@georgetakei get bit, get malariaโ€ฆ become a severely limited vampire yourself.
@georgetakei Not nearly as fun to yell before transforming on "What We Do In the Shadows"

@georgetakei Makes sense really. I was still surprised when I first saw the concept realized in Darkest Dungeon - Crimson Court:

@georgetakei Either way, they'd violate the Law of Conservation of Mass.
@georgetakei You'd need really tiny wooden stakes though.
@georgetakei Hah! Shows you haven't spent much time in the Everglades!

@georgetakei

Pathetic - this Woman really knows absolutely nothing about #Vampires.
She should read #BramStoker (if she can read then... )
