How about instead of harassing pirates, the content industry provide a better product? Instead they've been making it worse over the past few years.

$12.99 a month and it still has ads ain't it.

Studios Are Going After Piracy Again, Potentially Reigniting Fight Over Free Speech

The Motion Picture Association said it will work with Congress to enact an anti-piracy law similar to legislation that failed to pass more than a decade ago for potentially promoting censorship.

The Hollywood Reporter

One thing that I will make clear is I never want a show or movie I'm watching to be interrupted by an ad *EVER* again, if I'm paying for it.

That's it. Just, NO. Fuck that. I will torrent everything if it means not seeing ad interruptions.

That was an artifact of a PAST era. Free over the air TV. It made sense to have ads to pay for the content, and that was acceptable.

But if I'm paying for it? HELL TO THE FUCKING NO. Shove it, streaming companies.

And yes I realize free over the air TV is still a thing, but it's less of a thing every year.

And I still have no problems with ads there. It's a fair trade.

@zorinlynx with ATSC3, it'll be even LESS of a thing because content providers just went ahead and encrypted their channels.

Those content providers should NOT be able to use the public airwaves. They should either broadcast it clear or hand in their license to use those airwaves.

I'm with you, and this should have been a thing back when cable was new: if I pay money, there should be NO advertisements, PERIOD.

@yakkoj Yeah I was reading about that and I wonder why the hell the FCC is allowing it. Encrypted content does not belong on public airwaves.
@yakkoj I think the problem is, not enough people still watch OTA TV to be enough to influence the FCC to make good decisions here. It's become niche; it's not like in for example 1985 when most of the country had an antenna on their roof.

@yakkoj Also, LOL, came across this article when searching for info about ATSC 3.0.

They really bungled this up. I hope it dies on the vine.

LG Announces It Will Stop Including ATSC 3.0 NextGen TV OTA Tuners In Its TVs Because of Patent Fights | Cord Cutters News

Earlier this month, one of the biggest sellers of TVs announced that it will stop making TVs with the new ATSC 3.0 NextGen TVs OTA tuners included. This comes as earlier this year, LG lost a patient case from a company claiming to hold patents over some of the technology included in ATSC 3.0 Next […]

@zorinlynx sadly we need to hope OEMs just won't ship it rather than FCC paying attention to those using OTA to help them cut the cord to make the right decision
