@benroyce @lovelylovely it's because for them it's a special situation, a unique tragedy that makes it ok, while they can't understand that this might be the same for other people.
It's the same mechanism that makes people take care of a subject as soon as they or someone close to them are affected.
It's a general failure of empathy. Somehow a part of the population never learned to empathize with humans outside their immediate social circle.
