Have just been reminded that it's the anniversary of us losing Kurt Vonnegut.

I am a fan & in particular try to remember his advice to notice when things are good & to say "If this isn't nice, what is?"

I scribbled this on the day he died, & posted with the words "Kurt is up in heaven now" & was roundly attacked by someone for saying such a thing about a humanist, until I pointed them to the anecdote about how it was his favourite joke.

Anyway, read his books.

They're good.

@eclectech
Kurt Vonnegut's books were how I finally found a name for my beliefs: humanism. His writing had a profound effect on me. He is missed much.
@JillsJoy Absolutely get this, he was ace.
@eclectech I read Harrison Bergeron in my early teens, and I still feel the heartache every time I think of Vonnegut. He truly understood what it was to understand too much and be helpless to do anything about it.

@wcbdata I feel this. He had so much to say, and said it so well.

Also, so childish. I can't look at the latest Google authentication logo without thinking of his asshole doodle, which makes me laugh a lot.

@eclectech Makes me think of this one:
@wcbdata Oh aye, if only more people would take that one to heart.
@eclectech thank you for posting this. I cannot think of a more fitting or heartfelt tribute
@eclectech he's missed. But he's in a better place ;)
@eclectech

I keep meaning to.
I was only really aware of Slaughterhouse Five.
Just read the blurb for The Sirens Of Titan - OMGA definitely my twist of mind.

Thanks for the recommendation.

@eclectech

And his classic, after succeeding Asimov as head of the sceptics society - starting the presentation with "Issac's in Heaven now".

Too good.

@eclectech I read Galapagos maybe a year ago - highly recommend. Also, if you enjoy Douglas Adams, you’ll probably enjoy Vonnegut.
