This post begins Part 2 of the #RebekahAmell playthrough of #DragonAge Origins! Rebekah is about to return to her former home, the Circle of Magi near Lake Calenhad, in hopes that the mages there will honor their ancient treaty and assist the Grey Wardens against the Blight.

My latest random game hyperfocus: #DragonAge Origins! It's been long enough that it's like new again. I've decided to play as Thedas Me. But since it's "origins," my Amell mage has my birth name, Rebekah. She represents young me: idealistic, spiritual, gifted, sheltered, lonely, certain that she's Special, driven by emotion and quick to believe in legends and all things mystical. I'll tag and thread my posts in case anyone wants to follow (or mute) my playthrough. :) #RebekahAmell

It was strange returning to the Circle tower at Kinloch Hold so soon after I'd thought myself freed from it forever. Even before Knight-Templar Carroll rowed me across the lake, I felt a cold dread close around my heart.

Inside lay disaster. Somehow during my absence demons and abominations had taken over the tower. Knight-Commander Greagoir had locked the doors and called for the Right of Annulment; he was none too pleased to see me back.

I begged him to let me and my friends past the doors to save anyone we could. He agreed, but only if he could lock them again behind us. Unless First Enchanter Irving himself declared the tower safe, we would be killed with all the others.

What could I do but try to save the First Enchanter, the closest I had to a father? The Maker gave me an encouraging sign right away: not far inside I found Senior Enchanter Wynne, alive and well thanks to an arcane barrier she had put up.

Morrigan disappointed me by showing enormous and vocal disrespect to Wynne and ALL Circle mages. I was too cowardly to say the hateful things that jumped to my mind in response, but I did tell her she was welcome to find her own way out of the tower.

At which point she turned and stalked the way we'd come, seeming confident she could do just that. I was deeply hurt, but I still had Alistair and Leliana... and now Wynne, who promised to help us find the First Enchanter.

Poor Owain - one of the "Tranquil" who refused to undergo the Harrowing and so got cut off from the Fade, magic, and his own emotions - had hid from the slaughter but had not left the stockroom where he worked.

He was able to give us vital information - the mage Niall had been hoping to use the Litany of Adralla to nullify bloodmage mind control and save Kinloch Hold. But where was Niall, and how had this started?

Our next clue came from a blood mage we defeated. Loghain had promised Uldred and his Libertarian cronies an alliance that would help free Fereldan mages from Chantry control if they supported his bid for the throne.

Uldred had been near to convincing the Circle until Wynne had reported Loghain's betrayal at Ostagar. Irving called Uldred and several others to a meeting, and something happened during that meeting that had unleashed hell.

I couldn't bear to finish off the poor woman, even though she had resorted to blood magic. She had helped us, and she was defenseless, pleading for her life. I told her to seek the Chantry for rehabilitation, and clearly Leliana approved of this plan.

Alistair, who had been through templar training, was less certain she would find succor there. But I still judged it better than killing her myself in cold blood.
