Every so often a historian tries to make the case that the dark ages weren't really so bad or "dark" or that "feudalism" as a term is grounded in misconceptions and to me it just feels like an Uncle is in a swimming pool yelling "hey, it's fine, go ahead and jump in! It's not that cold!" except instead of cold water the pool is filled with tax farming
@mcc current read: _Putin’s Dark Ages: Political Neomedievalism and Re-Stalinization In Russia_ (Dina Khapaeva) and it is quite good if also quite chewy
