Sollenbum's review of Thousand Autumns

4/5: Meng Xi Shi’s “Thousand Autumns” third volume opens with Yan Wushi being attacked by five other martial artists who work together to defeat him. There is no honour in this type attack but it is effective, which leaves him so badly injured that he would most certainly have died if Shen Qiao’s had not rescued him. Despite Yan Wushi’s betrayal in the previous volume, Shen Qiao saves him and spends the next section of the book, helping him heal. @Sollenbum wow you're tearing through the books! Glad that you're enjoying reading about Shen Qiao's journey

I'm pretty sure I forgot to reply to your last message on the other thread. Gonna try to dig it up and reply
😓

@geraineon So, now I have even finished volume 4 😄📚 To be fair I have been reading it all week

The relationship between Shen Qiao and Yan Wushi is becoming playful, which is rather fun. The development of their relationship is nicely woven into the next phase of palace intrigue.

Now there’s a wait until the last volume is published. The 2nd volume of Guardian is arriving next week so I think, I read that next

@Sollenbum yeah and the other thing I appreciate is Yan Wushi is entirely unrepentant. He doesn't change as a person. His world view is still the same. There's no "redemption." These are two people who see each other exactly as they are
@geraineon Agree entirely! A redemption storyline would weaken his personality. He likes Shen Qiao precisely because they both are who they are. The teasing shows that he has learned when to stop pushing Shen Qiao’s buttons so he has developed some insight even if it is in the service of staying close to Shen Qiao 😄
