I can confirm the Wunderline chocolate bar from #ConnectingEuropeDays tastes sweeter than the #CrossBorderRail it is promoting!
@jon The promise is sweet, like a lot of open access routes.
#JustDoIt
@egeltje The problem here is the infra, that is lousy. Even when the bridge opens later this year it’ll still be single track Groningen-Oldenburg, and not even electrified on the Dutch section.
@jon cursory search reveals there are no through connections. is that it?
@6d03 The bridge is still broken. But even when the bridge is fixed the connection will be crap because it's a single track diesel line Dutch side, and a slow, overloaded, single track electric line German side.
@jon At least the replacement bridge is supposed to be finished this year, if DB can be believed: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friesenbr%C3%BCcke
Friesenbrücke - Wikipedia

@6d03 Yes, the people who gave me the chocolate bar confirmed that. And having been there last year I reckon it's possible.
@jon wunderbarre de chocolat

@jon I haven't really got the opportunity to ride on this route even during my Erasmus in Groningen a year ago. However, I'm still surprised on how this route isn't double tracked and electrified. It was the best moment to do so.

But I saw also that 2 stations are to open as well, after the reopening

@ThibaultLapers they’re doing the absolute minimum. And then selling it as a major step forward - that it isn’t. The re-opening is better than nothing but isn’t nearly enough.
