We just experienced a 7.4 earthquake in Taipei immediately after this alert hit our phones.

I’ve never felt a building shake like ours just did. In SF, the most I experienced was window blinds slightly moving. That was nuts! #taiwanquake #taiwan

And now we just felt an aftershock. It was smaller, but still lasted 10-15 seconds. The initial shake almost knocked me off my feet and I had to grab onto a doorframe.

What a wild morning.

It was a 7.4 quake and pretty damn close to us. 🫨 #taiwanquake #taiwan
The aftershocks keep happening, but don’t feel nearly as intense as that initial 7.4 magnitude earthquake. #taiwanquake #taiwan
@KevinHoctor omg, are you IN Taiwan?!? Stay safe my friend!
@Dhmspector We are in Taipei, so not near the epicenter or the tsunami warnings. Unlike the little shakes I've felt in the Bay Area, there was no doubt this was a major earthquake.
@KevinHoctor sounds like a wild and scary event, glad you’re both ok!
@Dhmspector Thanks. Another aftershock just hit as I was responding. This is so weird. I thought I'd feel earthquakes during my 8+ years in SF, but nothing worth mentioning.
@KevinHoctor yeah, I think the biggest quake I’ve ever felt in 14yrs in SF was a quake centered on Alum Rock that we felt at City Center and that was like a 5.4 and lasted 3ish seconds. In SF, we live on the mild side of the ring of fire, for sure..
@Dhmspector @KevinHoctor I lived in LA when we had the Northridge quake.
@KevinHoctor I started a meeting at 5PM California time with colleagues in Taiwan, and they opened with “we’re having a really big earthquake here” 😳 Hope y’all are ok!
