Whoo. That'a a blip. Big late-season melt event on the Peninsula. Hard to say how long it'll persist.

These aren't terribly uncommon. Antarctic surface melt is extremely noisy, especially on the shoulder seasons. While this one is quite extensive for this time of year, I'm pretty sure it's not record-breaking in the satellite era (tho I'll need to go through the record and look).

Okay. This late-fall Antarctic Peninsula heat wave has definitely turned into *A THING*. 🇦🇶❄️💦💦💦

I’ll need to go look at the past years’ data to see if we’re breaking any records or not since 1979 (the passive microwave satellite record). Keep in mind we may not be, Antarctic surface melt is extremely noisy. But mid-March is hella-late for this extensive & lasting of melt. I mean, you can see that plot.
