#so345 while watching the video, I mainly thought about how unfair the difference in treatment was. Unfortunately, I think the teachers were described as cheaters and sentenced so harshly because teaching is not a highly respected career. I think the Wall Street employees in the 2008 crash were not treated as harshly because Americans have more general respect for businessmen on Wall Street than teachers. It’s a shame that teachers are not held in high regard.
@anonymous_penguin921 I think that teachers are supposed to be teaching the children honesty and integrity, so for them to be deviant in a way that is so opposed to how people think they SHOULD act might have made their actions look more out of place to society. Conversely, it is 'cunning' for the people of Wall Street to be a little devious with their actions if it means they and their company get ahead, so when it came out that this was going on, there was less shock. #so345
@anonymous_penguin921 It reminds me of the double standards for men vs. women, like in Taylor Swift's song, "The Man," how actions made by men are perceived as cool and reasonable, while by women they're annoying and unnecessary, for example: "If I was out flashing my dollars, I'd be a bitch, not a baller." It's again what we've seen in class that deviance depends on the group of people and the audience rather than the action itself. #so345
