Do it. Do it now! Download the Ubuntu Desktop ISO, write it to a USB stick with Rufus (The last Windows program you'll ever need), boot your PC from it, erase your entire disk and install Ubuntu! 
Don't worry about all that software compatibility stuff, in a week you'll find none of it mattered anyway. Through Steam most games will still work. Through Alternative To you'll soon find better open-source replacements for everything else you ever needed anyway!
