Abandoned America

The crooked grand staircase at the abandoned Empire Hotel in Sharon Springs, NY. Aside from the staircase, sagging floors and doorways were an indicator that the hotel wasn't structurally sound. Less than a decade after I first photographed it, the entire building collapsed on itself.

The style of the alt text you've added for that image really really puts me in mind of text-based adventures on home computers back in the 80s, and now I'm thinking that a retro game based on your work would be amazing! Not the horror of asylums, but the lost potential and hauntology of malls, hotels and factories.

@zebulonmysterioso yeah, I was pretty young and also the puzzles were pretty obscure, even for adults. I don't think I ever finished one.

Totally, same here. I found a how-to for one in a magazine and finishing the game was a proper anti-climax. Nope, back to wandering and wondering for me!
