It would be so funny if big social media demise happens because of meta's threads make millions of people aware of the fedi, new projects are created, thousands of instances appear, millions migrate every month and their centralized business suddenly become unprofitable.

#threads #meta #fediverse #mastodon

@Felipe_B The opposite will happen.
Hoards will be unleashed on the fediverse making it unusable.
Writ AOL opens its walls on USENET.
@manitius maybe the main ones like this or pixelfed's main one but not the rest, my fear goes into people thinking the fedi is a meta thing and it's mandatory to have a insta account or don't wanting to be part because they don't want to be part of facebook

@Felipe_B

I think it's highly unlikely. Why would a Threads user leave if they can consume all of the fediverse/masto content already?

Especially when they haven't and maybe don't even know about the fediverse already?

Sure, some small amount of people may get interested and move.

But it's the part I don't get about the "to expose threads users to the fediverse" argument in favour of federating ...

why would they do anything different when federation itself gives them less of a need to.
