I just did another couple of #orthic #shorthand speed tests and I’m really surprised that my speed hasn’t gone up very much in the past month. It’s actually about the same???

But at the same time I’ve been feeling a lot faster, and like forms are coming to me weight having to think about them as much. I’m even getting a bit of Tetris effect when writing longhand and getting frustrated that I have to write the full word out.

My guess is that text copying is its own kind of speed challenge, as opposed to writing my own thoughts, which I’m sure is going way faster now.

@zkat what's the Tetris effect?

@zkat @aburka i hated the Tetris effect I’d sit there watching TV while trying to fit pieces around it and every other right angle thing in sight
@zkat re not wanting to work the fill word out, are you doing reporting style or just “ordinary”? I’m just getting started with it and still spelling everything out.
@masukomi honestly I would recommend not going beyond ordinary style. And even some of that is way outdated (there’s a lot of phrases that are 100% not used these days with valuable shortenings, while common internet stuff from our day and age like fyi aka tbh imo etc etc are obviously not there (these were mostly the ones I deviated from the style on))
@masukomi I think that ordinary style is still fairly readable and time-proof, but reporting style was designed with the intention that you would transcribe it into long hand very soon after
@zkat Thanks for the info 🙇‍♀️
@masukomi also, even if you decide to do reporting eventually, it’ll be a very very long time before you’re fast enough with ordinary that reporting would do anything other than slow you down
