Reminder to anyone who said "Meta wouldn't do anything to Fediverse, we should let them join!"

Meta is now automatically muting all posts that mention PixelFed, so it's users can't read about any alternatives to its services.

Just remember, *Every time advocacy groups warn about tech/capitalism, believe them.* We don't make shit up, we use history of actions and facts to state our reasons to be against it.

If your instance isn't part of @FediPact please urge your admins to join or move to another instance who is.

And if you want proof, ask the general public what Jabber/XMPP was, and then ask what Google how they killed it.

EDIT: *Please* send support to the creator of the FediPact, @vantablack as she is homeless. This is possible because of them.

EDIT #2: Some peppe are saying it doesn't happen anymore, but since it *only* happened to competitors to Facebook and only *after* people noticed, I don't think it was a "bug" that only impacted FOSS replacements, but a feature for Facebook removed. Don't give these Zuckers gaslight and think they remain innocent.

@queue @FediPact @vantablack I'm still using Jabber, but there aren't many users. There weren't many users in the beginning, then there suddenly was a huge number of people, most of which were using Google, and then Google dropped XMPP, and we were back to a few users. Jabber hasn't vanished, but it stagnated, there hasn't been any significant growth in a long time. It's a network used by a few nerds and geeks.

Like me ... my whole family and some friends! 😀

It actually allowed me (friends and family) to get rid of Element ( Matrix ) and Signal for good and set Telegram to be the next in line to get the boot.

And I couldn't be happier!

Coming back ( from the early 2000's Jabber ) to today's #XMPP was one of the most liberating and satisfying experiences in the longest time!.

Thank you @xmpp ! ❤

A few nerds, you say? Have a look at this network graph that includes only a tiny portion of all XMPP server instances. Every circle in that graph is a domain, that each serves multiple nerds (or regular people).

Interactive variants of this graph are available on https://xmppnetwork.goodbytes.im
