Chrome is built with Blink, which is based on Safari's WebKit, which was based on KDE's KHTML, which was released under the LGPL.

I wonder if Chrome would exist today if KHTML was GPL instead.

("Google would have just built a browser from scratch" considering the reality of 2008 isn't such an obvious proposition, IMO.)

I don't recall the details of Apple's circumvention of the LGPL... what do you mean by that? I mean, they opened up their changes to the library and bundled it in a proprietary app. That's what the LGPL is about, right?
