Writer Kenneth Johnson reworked his script "Storm Warning" (a modern retelling of the Sinclair Lewis' 1935 novel "It Can't Happen Here") into a science fiction story, but kept the idea that #fascism could happen in USA. The difference is that it would come in a UFO offering to be our friend.

NBC suggested changing the villains from fascists to space aliens, to broaden its appeal.

He called the new story 'V'.
