"nobody's made a good xmpp client"
umm... Fortnite?
@ipg What.
@mtr @ipg fortnite has an xmpp client built in for text chat
@esm @mtr and presence updates and lobby notifications! for a certain time period lobbies were just spicy MUCs afaik, now they're handled more in epic's own backend but xmpp is still used as a notification service
@ipg @esm @mtr xmpp is still used in a lot of party-related operations, actually (basically everything clientbound)! yes, they don't use the MUC as much as they used to (system notifications don't go through there anymore since s4/s5), but everything else is largely the same. the extra stomp protocol they use with EOS does exist, but fortnite doesn't actually use it, and stomp just echoes a lot of stuff xmpp normally would (except it filters out extra stuff)
@esm @mtr @ipg I got sick and tired of needing to load Worms Armageddon to use IRC, so I switched over to Uplink, but needing to recompile the game to switch servers also started getting on my nerves.
