I've grudgingly frequented Wetherspoons in the past because a friend works there, and the pub is providing vital jobs for the community.

But now the local manager has fired said friend because he missed a shift. Reason? Possible heart attack and a twenty four hour stay in hospital. He wasn't even informed that his rota had changed requiring him to be in that day. That's gross misconduct apparently and ground for dismissal.

So 'Spoons can get fucked right in the spuds.
