**Repeat - apparantly Tesla's *do have modular batteries**

Modular batteries ftw - "On average, a damaged Tesla costs $1,347 more to repair than a damaged gas-powered car, but a damaged EV from another automaker costs just $269 more.

Why the difference?... [Tesla uses] a long, wide battery pack mounted under the floor, which takes up much of the same footprint as the car. It’s the most expensive part of the vehicle, and many accidents damage it.

Some automakers, knowing this, have designed modular batteries. Technicians can open them and replace just a few cells or place working cells in a new casing for less than the cost of a new battery.

Tesla batteries aren’t modular and must be replaced entirely if they are lightly damaged."

@inno4295 One: Teslas do have modular batteries.

Two: you ***don't want to replace*** individual modules or cells. This is a ***bad thing***. It leaves your pack unbalanced. Cells need to age together.

Three: you don't want to use a "lightly damaged" battery pack, for God's sake.

@nafnlaus

Ah ok, thanks for the heads up. I'll put a disclaimer on my post "as pointed out by a mastodon user, this post is incorrect".

@inno4295
'modular' in the sense that there's four packs, and they run most of the length of the car.
