@Linux_Is_Best @SteveHamilton @stux absolute biggest wish was to abolish the 2 party system. Make everyone run as an independent.
@codemonkeymike @[email protected] @stux forcing everyone to run as independent wouldn't change a damn thing. It would just result in candidates not calling themselves Democrat, Republican, Green Party, Libertarian Party, etc. But as far as who would win in the end, I don't think it would have a significant effect. Abolishing the 2 party system isn't the answer we need.

@SteveHamilton @codemonkeymike @Linux_Is_Best @stux The 2 party situation is not a cause, but an effect. It's because the way the election system is set up that you end up having only two viable parties.

I think this video was made to point at the flaws of UK voting system, but pretty sure it's not far off from explaining why it works like this by design:

@MichalBryxi @codemonkeymike @[email protected] @stux The 2 party system has been around since the beginning of the US. Before they were called Democrat/Republican, their former names were Whig/Federalist. Which evolved into the 2 major parties we have now. I'd call that a cause.
@SteveHamilton You're entitled to believe whatever you want 🙃
@MichalBryxi I could say the same thing to you. Humanity would be a very boring species if we all had the same beliefs. I'm all for diversity. Just because someone believes differently doesn't necessarily make one wrong or the other right.

@SteveHamilton There are things where we have nothing but belief and people chose to believe or not.

And then there are things where we can use sciences and infer with reasonable certainty what the objective reality is.

Those are two distinct states that should have minimal (nil?) overlap.

@MichalBryxi Good point, but I don't wish to continue discussing this, so I think the best approach for me is "agree to disagree" and disengage.
