We have lots of great reasons to change from fossil fuels to renewables, but one underappreciated one is that oil money funds a disproportionately large portion of the resurgence of white supremacy.
The white supremacists like Chris Rufo who are attempting to purge non-whites from universities aren't pulling their 6-figure salaries and flying all over the country from thin air. It's money from places like Heritage.

@alexwild - the most disturbing thing about the Heritage Foundation now is their plan to dismantle the US government when Trump takes power:

"With a nearly 1,000-page “Project 2025” handbook and an “army” of Americans, the idea is to have the civic infrastructure in place on Day One to commandeer, reshape and do away with what Republicans deride as the “deep state” bureaucracy, in part by firing as many as 50,000 federal workers."

Conservative groups draw up plan to dismantle the US government and replace it with Trump’s vision

With more than a year to go before the 2024 election, a constellation of conservative organizations is preparing for a possible second White House term for Donald Trump. The conservative organizations are recruiting thousands of Americans to travel to Washington on a mission to dismantle the federal government and replace it with a vision closer to Trump's own. The Project 2025 effort is being led by the Heritage Foundation think tank and fueled by former Trump administration officials with a nearly 1,000-page how-to book. They want to shrink government from within by firing up to 50,000 federal workers whom Republicans call “deep state” bureaucrats.

I must say, it's nice to see the HF take off the mask. I spent my life reading their garbage in otherwise reputable places, all the time being able to see this was their goal. They will never again be able to pretend to be anything but fascist propaganda.

@Uair @alexwild - I actually don't know if they and all the other pro-Trumpers were always secretly as fascist as they openly are now. Maybe they are just being opportunistic: once neoliberal capitalism was their thing, now they've decided there's a market for dictatorship. But anyway, they were always scummy and now new levels of scumminess seem to be acceptable to many in the US! I'm just trying to figure out when and how to get out.
@johncarlosbaez @alexwild
Not "Trump," "Republicans." The party leadership is all-in on the plan no matter who they elect, now that they have the courts loaded.
@MHowell @alexwild - yes, essentially all Republicans are in on this, but so far they are all willing to lick Trump's boots.

@johncarlosbaez @alexwild

You dismantle a republic with the fascists you have, not with the fascists you'd like.

(This being the internet and all, I'll add that this does not strike me personally as a good idea.)
