👀Via Timothy Snyder:

#Trump's allies are selling out #Ukraine in exchange for #Russia backing in the election.

A Trump victory in November would finish off US democracy.

And a Russian victory in Ukraine would doom freedom generally.

If this minority coalition of international fascists wins in 2024, life will be rotten for everyone else indefinitely.

If you want a chance to live in a decent world, you've got half a year to act.

@GottaLaff no, it wouldn't. It would make everything much harder, but saying it would doom everyone and everything is removing agency from many people who fight and will keep fighting.
@peteriskrisjanis He’s doing the opposite. He’s lighting a fire under them. And… he’s an expert on this. Do you know his work?
@GottaLaff I know him. I know him being quite emotional about Ukraine and a bit hyperbolic. I am from Latvia, it is next to me, I am very accute aware what is going on. However hyperbole is not gonna increase support. We need to be consistent. We need to call out fascists. And I realise people like them are trying rally support, but being hyperbolic about it....it pushes people away.

@peteriskrisjanis I don’t think he’s being hyperbolic.

And if he is, some people need that to wake them up

@peteriskrisjanis @GottaLaff respectfully, we who live in the United States have a solid grasp of what a future Trump term would bring. The lead up to the 2016 election was full of people downplaying how bad a Trump presidency would be, and it’s happening again for this #2024election

@MattFerrel @peteriskrisjanis @GottaLaff

Irreparable damage was done in 2016. Racists, separatists, and evangelicals were made to believe they are a majority of the electorate. Their views have always been a part of Civil discourse, but never a rational basis for a political party.

#SaveDemocracy #SaveHumanity

@peteriskrisjanis @GottaLaff Imagine describing tfg as “emotional about Ukraine and a bit hyperbolic” and the resistance as being too hyperbolic. My friend, I don’t doubt that you are aware of what is going on in your country, and perhaps the countries “next to” you. But you clearly do not “know” trump and your understanding of the dangers of a second trump presidency is naive and ill-informed.
@tiamat271 @GottaLaff I consider Trump a danger, clear and cut, along with putin, climate change, etc.
What I don't consider that claiming doom on everything is way to raise flag and call to action. It is just that simple. It makes lots of people to tune out.

@peteriskrisjanis @tiamat271 @GottaLaff
Timothy Snyder has written extensively on the fallacy of "the end of history"

Saying democracy is "doomed" is not him saying that is the end state. Of course, people will resist - and democracy may return at some future point.

But what is not hyperbole is that American democracy, certainly as known the past 80 years, will be replaced by some new type of autocratic rule.

@peteriskrisjanis @GottaLaff Prof Snyder is anything but hyperbolic as it pertains to America. If Trump wins then Putin will control of America. Central Europe will go up in flames.

I don’t think people realize how much other countries depend on our military **infrastructure**.

Today, this minute, 10th Mountain Division has part of the division stationed in POLAND. What happens if 5 Eyes stops functioning?

Life will get hard fast for Americans, then for everyone.
