Having seen what third-party app marketplaces have to go through just to be approved by Apple, I wouldn't be surprised if third-party stores end up being *safer* than the App Store; the App Store is the marketplace full of scams, exploitation and dark patterns, where third-parties can focus much more on curated collections of trusted apps. Apple is terrified of actually having to compete

@stroughtonsmith I don’t know if I 100% agree with you, but I am curious how it will shake out with one or more truly curated stores vs. Apple’s big messy pile of stuff.

An interesting thing will be the life cycle of new stores: will we see them undergo enshittification of their own if they feel the need to compete on available app count or just dot take the time to review as thoroughly as they should.

@stroughtonsmith I wouldn’t be surprised if app marketplaces that aren’t "too big to fail" (e.g. Facebook) are incredibly paranoid about bad apps. Feels like distributing bad things would be a way to get Apple to cut you off real fast
