Today I try to convince a group of kids that insects are awesome.

I was not a fan as a child - being especially terrified of bees and other buzzing creatures, but overtime, being outdoors and in the garden, I’ve built up a growing respect and curiosity about them.

Looking at them from an existence perspective they’re rather essential for so many reasons. Decomposition, pollination, and controlling invasive populations? Huge

We will also talk about some of the baddies - mosquitos, ticks, etc.

We've also been playing around with #haiku as a creative point of intersection with nature - so I'm going to share one of mine today. It's about Japanese beetles, popillia japonica.

Beetles eating leaves
Defoliators supreme
Only structure remains.
