PeerTube is missing a feature, which AFAIK they are working on implementing- migrating accounts.

For instance, I am no longer posting on TILvids, and yet new folks are still following me on there.

A few times a week, someone messages me via my website, assuming I've left PeerTube. But I haven't- I just changed instances.

I could have deleted all of my old videos, but that leaves dead links. The best solution is account migration.

#peertube #fediverse #activitypub

It is getting to the point where I am going to have to produce a video explaining that I've left TILvids, which sounds far more dramatic than it is (my reasoning wasn't acrimonious or anything, just wanted to self host and learn more).

Making an "I left [service]" video comes across as drama-inducing, when moving servers really shouldn't be.

[I am not looking for technical support or advice with this toot]
@vkc Juggling the process of communicating with followers how they can keep getting your stuff is the toughest part of migrating platforms. I feel ya.
@vkc you used the move activity, right? aka, your followers are now following you on the new instance automatically, or maybe peertube doesn't support that?
@vkc Probably the most problematic thing is transfering video files from one server to another it could cost bandwitch though having ability to redirect user like in mastodon would be cool.
@vkc I should donate to Peertube, I love what they are doing and I think they're a very small team.

@vkc Hi,

We're currently working on account import/export for 2024 and hope to implement account migration (with followers and videos) in 2025 :)

@vkc

It's a needed feature.

I've seen a few people post an "I've moved to x instance" video directing people as a stopgap measure.
