Despite all the drama, it turns out to be a story that happened 20 years ago - and not in the U.S. but in Mexico. It’s a story that was recounted in Congressional testimony in 2015.

So Katie Britt, after hiding how fancy her kitchen was so she could claim to have worries, laid out an excellent case we should make it easier for women who've been sex trafficked to get amnesty in the US, and ALSO noted migration has been a problem for a decade?
@GottaLaff @emptywheel And what makes it even worse is that Katie Britt supports the RAISE Act (which would cap the number of legal refugees (including refugees from sex trafficking) the US would accept) and the misnamed Asylum Abuse Reduction Act (which would require abused children to somehow find their way to a US embassy to do a telephone interview in order to even apply for asylum, then wait in Mexico while their case is reviewed).
It's pathological to say you want to help teenagers forced into sexual slavery while also using your power to make it harder for them to get help.
