There's epic arrogance in popups like this one from the NY Times. It's trying to get me to install the spy-on-the-user app, and the choices are:

In bold type: "Read this article in the app"

In smaller not-bold type: "Not right now"

The option I really want:

"Never, and stop bothering me"

@dangillmor I disable javascript and reload to suppress the NYT nag
@dangillmor 100%. How about, if I want the app I'll just download it.
@dangillmor I will never download the app. Any media app. Any commercial app. Any banking app. I'm using a Pixel phone so I believe I'm already being spied on quite enough.
@dangillmor Yeah, and they pull this nonsense on paying customers, too.
@dangillmor I finally unsubscribed. The latest poll story pushed me over the edge. It took a bit of work to get to the right page for doing this as they don’t make it easy, but when you finally get there you’re presented with a variety of choices for your rationale. I chose the ā€œConcerns about coverageā€ option. Down to just the WaPo now - and I still get that in paper copy!

@dangillmor

I selected the " I don't read the New York Times " option several years ago and have never regretted it.
