Pablo Arias Sarah:
Usually studies in social interaction have to balance ecological validity Vs experimental control.
To do both at the same time he created DuckSoup, where participants voices and faces are being manipulated in real-time with paramtric control of the signals.

The platform has been used in a speed dating task where manipulating smiles incongruently or congruently, they found that smile alignment predicted the positive outcome of the interaction. This was also replicated in a non-romantic meet-up task conducted online.
Looking at time series of the smile data, one can see the alignment of the time series.
When both participants smile, this influences their social outcomes as can be shown int he coupling of the time series data.
DuckSoup affords a ton of experimental possibilities via vocal expressivity, gender or facial expression manipulations.
